Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can my child start lessons?

At Elder’s swim centre we accept children from 4 months old onwards. Proven benefits of infant swim lessons can be found in our developmental program information.

What does my child need to bring to the lesson?

It is our policy, all swimmers when they advance into classes on their own (around 3 years) wear a swimming cap. Goggles are encouraged however never used in back work or water safety activities. If your child wears a nappy, please ensure they are wearing an aqua nappy during their lesson.

How much do swim lessons cost?

We have the SMALLEST classes in the bay (max. 7 in infants) and 4 in learn to swim. We are the most affordable due to the low numbers and are a multi-award swimming centre. WINNER OF “AUSTRALIA’S BEST AUSTSWIM CENTRE, QLD. BEST AUSTSWIM INFANT and GENERAL SWIM TEACHER QLD BEST RLSS. TRAINER.

Due to a wide variety of lesson types, each cost is different. Please contact us to have a FREE swimming assessment or enquire on prices.

What do I do if I cannot come to a lesson?

If enrolled in a morning class a courtesy phone call is required BEFORE 8am. MAKE-UP CLASS - Phone after 8 am ON THE DAY to see if any position is available.

If enrolled in a afternoon class a courtesy phone call is required BEFORE 2pm. MAKE-UP CLASS - Phone after 2 pm ON THE DAY to see if any position is available.

Do you provide makeup lessons or refunds?

Yes we allow 2 make-ups per term if courtesy call received (see previous FAQ’s) on presentation of a doctors certificate, make up lessons may be credited to the next term only.  We DO NOT provide refunds.

Do you have lessons all year round?

We hold lessons aligned with public school terms. School Holiday periods we hold Intensive Block Swim Lessons with the exception of June holidays.

Why do you use backpacks and flotation equipment?

We only use equipment when practicing sub skills so the swimmer can focus on technique easier. Think of learning to ride a bike, trainer wheels went on, trainer wheels definitely come off. Equipment is NOT used  all lesson. Also it allows for more safe, practice time.

How do I get a progress report?

We have a communication book on the front counter. Leave your name and phone number and we shall respond with a progress report.  Pool supervisor is also available to discuss progress.

Is the pool heated and enclosed?

Yes, heated 31.5 degrees celsius, fully enclosed and purpose built for learn to swim classes.

How do I change times?

Fill in a change form from reception and you will be  notified of a suitable time and class.

When do swimmers advance to next level?

3 year old children progress into a class without an adult in the water.  Our program caters for children’s skills to be challenged within a class without changing time, day and teacher.  Non-school aged children classes are held on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday mornings. School aged children are held in the afternoon and Saturday mornings.

When can my child move to Kingfish or squad?

When the swimmer is assessed by the instructor and pool supervisor and passes proficiently in their expectations on relevant certificates.

Are your instructors qualified?

YES … All of our instructors are AUSTSWIM ACCREDITED and attend compulsory professional development courses in-house each term. Marcus is SILVER Australian Coaches Accredited.
